1-Pacman makes good on its call for sports development at grassroots level

Now, and at no other time in modern lives, is when young people have to get their bodies in motion for wellness through sports and sporting activities.

This is the call of 1-Pacman Party List as its leaders speak to grassroots communities about its advocacy for sports development with the country’s youth in focus. Philippine honor and glory in big competitions as the Olympics, world, and regional games ultimately follow as a result.

Continuing to manifest its commitment to improving sports around the country, Milka Romero, 1-Pacman chairman and first nominee, together with party list colleagues and support organizations, recently mounted the 1-Pacman Volleyball Festival with 27 youth teams participating in Lapu-Lapu City.

The event was followed by training and clinicking in Mandaue City for over 100 players, aged 10 to 18 years old, by top players from the Capital 1 volleyball team.

The 1-Pacman Party List had provided the country with its authorship of Republic Act 11214, an act establishing the country’s first Philippine Sports Training Center, a highly scientific sports complex with the vision of being the primary facility for sports excellence in the country.

RA 11214 is one of over 100 laws passed with the sponsorship of 1-Pacman Party List Rep. Mikee Romero, who also served as Deputy House Speaker and chairman of the Committee on Poverty Alleviation.

Over at Olongapo City, Milka Romero recently addressed leaders and members of the Olongapo Junior Tracker Multisports (OJTM) about the significance of promoting sports among the youth and guiding them through the ropes with important mentorship, access to leagues or competitions, and assistance with appropriate gears.

Romero lauded the OJTM’s efforts, including offering of free coaching to promising athletes. The 1-Pacman Party List handed its donation of sports shoes at an assembly the other week.

Romero has noted that with sports, players already emerge as winners, even as they are still in the process of learning skills, preparing for competitions and mentally psyching themselves.”Sa sports, panalo agad ang kabataan,” said Milka.

Romero also emphasized on the crucial role of an effective sporting culture in the Philippines.

These days, many of the young people face the computers day in and day out, and almost endlessly deal with their gadgets, while being stationary.

“Our youth would benefit much from being more physically active, as well as in socializing and gaining friends through sporting activities. These all redound to wellness in body, mind, and spirit of our young population,” said Romero.

The 1-Pacman Party List, she said, strives to continue to achieve the elements necessary for the holistic well-being of the youth, with sports development as focus.
