MANILA, Philippines — A hero’s welcome in the capital awaits Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna announced on Monday.

Lacuna said the local government is planning a parade, which will begin at Leveriza Street in Malate, where Yulo grew up. The parade may pass through areas near Malacañang, the University Belt, and will end at Manila City Hall.

“This is our way of paying tribute to Caloy’s greatness,” Lacuna said in a statement.

Lacuna said the date and route of the parade are still being finalized.

She also said students in Manila are enjoined to pour into the city’s streets to welcome Yulo, who won two gold medals in the Paris Olympics.

“Caloy’s victory will serve as an inspiration for them to discover more Carlos Yulos among the youth of Manila and the entire Philippines,” she added.

Yulo, 24, clinched his first gold on Saturday and his second on Sunday.
