MANILA, Philippines—Rain or Shine flaunted its coherence as a team to stay unbeaten in Group A of the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday.

The Elasto Painters seized the solo lead of Group B at 3-0, and they did it by playing their own brand of basketball.

“This good start is such a huge thing. We started out at 0-5 and 0-4, it’s like we’re in a different world. You can see that the kids’ games are improving and I’m happy about it. I’ve been saying that I enjoy watching our team play,” said Guiao after their 124-105 win over NLEX.

The Elasto Painters bucked a slow start and slowly worked their way back after NLEX took a commanding 40-24 lead at the end of the first quarter.

“We’re confident about our offense, we know we can get that going. We were able to play the pace we wanted to play. We moved the ball a lot, got our open looks,”

“We just needed a little patience and our offense came. It’s good that they didn’t lose their confidence.”

Rain or Shine’s comeback prompted Guiao to say that the team’s showing on Wednesday, despite having to recover from 21 points down, was even better than its game against Ginebra last Saturday.

“I think we had better percentages in this game. We were able to do 31 assists and any coach would be happy with that. We also had 38 fastbreak [points] and that’s our objective; play fast and share the ball,” explained Guiao.

The seasoned coach is satisfied to see his team get off to a winning start in comparison to the Elasto Painters’ previous beginnings in the past conferences.
