MANILA, Philippines — After missing the previous heartbreaking campaign of PLDT, a fit-again Savi Davison is determined to lead the High Speed Hitters to a first ever podium finish in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Coming off a six-month absence due to surgery on her previous knee injury, the Filipino-Canadian spiker made a rousing comeback with 19 points to lead PLDT past Nxled, 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

“I’m just excited to contribute the way I’m used to. I’m super grateful with how this whole process turned out with me being able to play so early,” said Davison, who had 18 kills and nine excellent receptions.

Davison missed the whole duration of the Reinforced Conference, where PLDT suffered a tough five-set defeat to the Akari Chargers in the knockout semifinals marred by a controversial net fault call.

But now that her team has moved on, all Davison wants is to get over the hump.

“We all kind of have a chip on our shoulder to come back, but regardless of what happened last conference, I think we’re just working hard to enter that podium spot, and that’s our main goal moving forward,” said Davison.

The PLDT go-to scorer admitted it was a tough journey recovering from her injury and being limited to a mere cheerleader on the sidelines.

“I think the injury itself, just not being able to contribute the way I’m used to. Seeing everything from the outside perspective, I think that was the hardest part, but you know, it makes you think about all the things you should be grateful for once you get back, and just being able to move again,” said Davison.

Davison said she is also looking forward to battling the top pro teams anew.

“I’m actually excited to face all of them. There’s been a lot of changes in the PVL and I’m excited to see kinda how things turn out with coaches, new players, etc. I can’t really say that there’s one kind of team to look forward to,” said Davison.

“Obviously, the top teams, Choco Mucho and Creamline are always a good fight, but regardless, every team’s gonna come with everything that they have, so everything’s gonna be competitive.”
