PLDT dominated Akari, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15, in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Savi Davison flaunted her usual power in the offense with 15 points off 13 attacks and two blocks as Majoy Baron helped with 11 points, all from attacks as the High Speed Hitters snapped a two-game skid to end last year and improve to a 4-2 standing.

“Happy with the result. We were really looking forward to today’s game and we’re happy with our showing,” coach Rald Ricafort said.

Erika Santos also came up with 11 points as Ange Alcantara dished out 12 excellent sets in what was expected to be a back-and-forth matchup due to the controversial semifinal win of the Chargers back in the Reinforced Conference last year.

“All I wanted to do was help the team. Whatever I could give in any way possible I know it was difficult for us to get through that last year but coming back strong and taking them in three really meant a lot to us,” Davison said.

The Chargers were also missing the services of Grethcel Soltones and Ced Domingo but had the returning defense ace Justine Jazareno after her pregnancy.

There was no stopping PLDT as it continued pounding Akari to a 21-9 lead courtesy of an off the block kill of Santos. Akari tried to come back but the High Speed Hitters were already smelling blood as a tip by Baron secured the win.

“Personally, I just enjoyed it because I was excited since it was the first game of the year. The break was long, so we were more excited and well-prepared,” Baron said. “I don’t dwell on what happened last year because the team composition is different now.”

“We’re just focused on the task, and we treat each game the same, keeping our emotions level because we really want to stay focused and do our job on the court,” she added.

Faith Nisperos was the only Charger to reach double digits with 11 points as Akari lost its fourth match in seven games.

PLDT’s mettle will be tested once again opposite Choco Mucho next as Akari battles winless sister team Nxled in the earlier matchup, both on Thursday in the same Pasig City venue.
