MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala kissed her W125 Mumbai campaign goodbye after bombing out of the singles and doubles tournament on Wednesday in India.
Eala was booted out in the round of 16 of the singles after falling to Japanese Mai Hontama, 6-7(5-7), 2-6.

The 19-year-old Filipino lost steam after the grueling extended first set as the Japanese broke a 2-2 tie in the second frame and won four straight games to advance to the quarterfinals.

Eala ended her fifth singles tournament of the year with another early exit following her missed opportunity to enter the Singapore Open last week.

She started her Mumbai campaign with a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Japan’s Sara Saito.
Eala also absorbed an early exit in the doubles as she and her partner Tsao Chia Yi of Chinese Taipei fell to Russia’s No.2 seed Amina Anshba and Elena Pridankina, 6-4, 6-4, later in the day.
