Filipino pole vault star EJ Obiena picks up his second gold medal of the season after ruling the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Poland.–COPERNICUS CUP
MANILA, Philippines–After a pair of subpar performances, EJ Obiena bounced back big time with his second gold medal of the season.
The Filipino pole vault ace got back on track by claiming the gold at the Orlen Copernicus Cup early Monday (Manila time) in Torun, Poland.

“Still chasing… Good day in Torun 🇵🇱 with a new SB of 5.80m and a win 🥇,” the 29-year-old Obiena posted on Instagram.

Obiena cleared a season-best 5.80m to top an 11-man field and redeem himself from a seventh-place finish at the ISTAF Indoor Dusseldorf in Germany and ninth in the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais.
Home bet Piotr Lisek won silver with a 5.70m clearance while Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen also hurdled 5.70m but setted for bronze via countback.

Obiena, the world No. 4, picked up his third medal overall this season after opening his indoor campaign with a silver at the International Springer-Meeting in Cottbus, Germany late last month.
