MANILA, Philippines — Detdet Pepito urged the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses to keep playing loose when they renew their rivalry against last year’s Finals tormentor National University Lady Bulldogs.
The Season 86 Finals rematch highlights the final day of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball first round next Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Since losing the opener to Far Eastern University, UST has won five straight games capped by a 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of Ateneo for a 5-1 record — behind unbeaten NU (5-0) — on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

This close to a perfect first round, National University continues to keep its focus on getting better.
“I think NU’s performance will continue to improve going into the second round and Sunday’s final game of the first round,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Sherwin Meneses on Wednesday.
That final first-round assignment in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament is against University of Santo Tomas, the last team that stood in NU’s way in last season’s title run.

Being on top doesn’t mean that National University (NU) has had it easy.
And despite being perfect close to a month into Season 87 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, the Lady Bulldogs are willing to face all the coming challenges head-on so that they remain that way.
“We need to be consistent and not be complacent,” star Bulldog Bella Belen said after dropping 17 points in leading National U to a fifth straight win, a 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 thumping of University of the Philippines on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
