Glory Alonzo carried Adamson to a historic 12th straight UAAP softball crown, leading the Lady Falcons to a 4-0 shutout of University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in Game 2 of the Season 87 Finals on Saturday.

The Season 85 Best Pitcher and Finals MVP delivered a masterful performance in the clincher at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium, bouncing back from a subpar showing in Game 1 of the Finals and completing yet another season sweep for Adamson.

“After Game 1, one of the things I had to address was my pitcher, Alonzo. What happened to her was very rare, so we really had a heart-to-heart talk,” said Adamson’s longtime head coach Ana Santiago in Filipino.

“I told her, ‘You have to redeem yourself because that wasn’t you. You may have had a bad game, but it doesn’t define your character. And at the same time, we’re giving you the chance to redeem yourself. I just want to show you that whatever happened in Game 1—the past is past,’

Rookie Jhaycel Roldan, meanwhile, led the offense with two hits and an RBI, earning Finals MVP honors.

“Surprisingly, she’s just a rookie, but she really stepped up. Especially during crucial moments when we needed to score, she was the one who delivered. That’s really our thing—someone else stepping up when others are down,” Santiago said of the young star from Bacolod.

This latest triumph is also the Lady Falcons’ 21st championship overall, tying them with Far Eastern University as the most successful program in UAAP softball history.

“Winning a dozen titles feels amazing. These girls earned it,” said Santiago, who also coaches the Philippine national team.

UP’s Nickole Dela Cruz was named Season MVP after leading the league in batting average (.692), slugging (.1.077), and RBIs (14). Teammate Angel Pascual had the most stolen bases (4), while UST’s Angel Bedaño was the Home Run Queen.

 UST settled for the bronze to finish third for a third straight season.
