Gilas Pilipinas draws familiar foes in 2025 Fiba Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines–Gilas Pilipinas has been grouped with familiar foes for group stage of the 2025 Fiba Asia Cup in August.

The Philippines landed in Group D for the continental tournament scheduled in August, joining Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and Iraq.

There’s a sense of familiarity for Gilas heading into the continental meet’s group play, having previously faced both Chinese Taipei and New Zealand during the qualifying phase.

Gilas lost to both teams in February.

In the other group, Qatar, Australia, Korea and Lebanon will compete in Group A.

Jericho Cruz and Guam, meanwhile, were drawn into Group B alongside powerhouse Japan, Syria and Iran.

The 2025 Fiba Asia Cup will be held from August 5 to 17 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
