MANILA, Philippines–Far Eastern University wiggled itself out of some testy moments on Wednesday to boot out a traditional powerhouse and inch closer to its Final Four dreams in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball.
The Lady Tamaraws carved out a 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 victory at the expense of Ateneo at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City to moving within sniffing range of a semifinal berth.
After three tightly-contested sets, FEU broke free and went on a blistering 13-5 finishing kick off Faida Bakanke and Gerzel Petallo’s heroics to improve to 8-4 win-loss while snuffing out the Lady Eagles’ own Final Four hopes.

Bakanke had 19 points, while Petallo 13 points to go with 12 digs and 14 receptions as the Lady Tamaraws, the proverbial bar in women’s play with 29 crowns, brace for what could be their seventh semifinal appearance in the last nine seasons.
FEU can sweep in and take one of the two playoff bonuses should it extend its winning ways over its last two games: Versus Adamson and then La Salle.
Ateneo drew 17 points from AC Miner, the squad unable to break its string of unproductive years. The last time the Lady Eagles—once a dominant force in the league—made the knockout phase for 11 straight years until Season 84 back in 2022.
