MANILA, Philippines—PBA legends and former Gilas Pilipinas teammates Jimmy Alapag and LA Tenorio linked up in the US.

Tenorio, the Barangay Ginebra guard, flew to California and attended a Sacramento Kings home game at Golden 1 Center where he and Alapag had a much needed catch-up.

“Great having my close friend, former Gilas teammate, and brother @la_tenorio here in Sacramento for a Kings game,” Alapag, who has been serving as a player development coach with the Kings since 2023, posted on Instagram Saturday.

“[We] had conversations years ago about one day getting an opportunity to coach in the NBA, and now 4 yrs later here we are.”

Like Alapag, Tenorio has also landed a coaching stint as mentor of Gilas Pilipinas Youth.

Alapag recalled his countless battles with Tenorio in the PBA and the “brotherhood” they built as part of the national team.

The two were on opposing sides of the court for a decade in the PBA where they each won multiple championships. But perhaps their greatest triumph on the court was when they were teammates as invaluable pieces of the Philippine team that won silver in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championship in Manila.

“From our days as fierce competitors in the PBA, to the brotherhood we helped create with Gilas Pilipinas, and now a new chapter as coaches trying to help grow the game we both love!” said the 47-year-old Alapag, who won six PBA championships.

“Excited to see you lead the next generation of Filipino hoopers!! Always love and respect my brother.”
