MANILA, Philippines—After missing much of the last conference, Rain or Shine guard Gian Mamuyac made sure to make his mark in the ongoing Philippine Cup by pushing the Elasto Painters to their first win.

On Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum, Mamuyac played a huge part in Rain or Shine’s dominant 113-96 win over Northport.

This, after the Elasto Painters absorbed a disappointing loss at the hands of NLEX, 109-95, on Saturday.

“I’m just proud we stepped up to the challenge after that huge loss to NLEX. It’s good we bounced back and hopefully this adds up to our momentum,” said the shifty guard.

“It’s good to have a long break when you’re coming off a win so hopefully when we come back, we’re still winning.”

Mamuyac fired 22 points on an efficient 10-for-19 shooting night with three rebounds, three assists and a steal to match in the win that sent Rain or Shine to 1-1 for the season.

Helping Mamuyac on offense were Leonard Santillan, Andrei Caracut and Caelan Tiongson, who finished with 17, 15 and 15 points to their names, respectively.

Mamuyac needed all the help he could get on offense. After all, he’s still on his journey in recovering from an arm injury that sidelined him for a long period of time.

Although the Ateneo product saw action in last conference’s semifinals against TNT, he only played limited minutes.

Still, Mamuyac is just thankful to be back on the court providing major contributions for the Elasto Painters.

“I’m glad that I still got to play a bit in the last conference and I thank coach Yeng (Guiao) and the other coaches for allowing me to play even after that heavy injury.”
