MANILA, Philippines — La Salle made sure to make the most of an earlier break and outlasted Adamson in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-4, in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Already through to the Final Four thanks to UST’s sweep of UP earlier in the day, the Lady Spikers leaned on Angel Canino and Shevana Laput to pull out the win and stay in the hunt for a twice-to-beat protection in the semifinals.
Canino dropped 21 points and had 23 excellent receptions, while Laput also finished with 21 points.

Rookie Shane Reterta delivered four points in the final set, helping seal the deal for the traditional powerhouse.
“That kid is so skilled. She’s unstoppable,” Canino said of Adamson’s Shaina Nitura, who unloaded 35 points. “But our blockings in the fourth and fifth [set] worked.”
La Salle improved to 9-4 to tie UST for second place, needing a victory over FEU and a Lady Bulldogs triumph over the Golden Tigresses to lock up the second seed.
Adamson slipped to 5-8 and is out of the semis race.
