San Miguel Beer was hardly affected by having just 10 players in uniform due to health reasons, crushing Blackwater, 115-78, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
CJ Perez scored 20 points, June Mar Fajardo had 17 points and 13 rebounds while Don Trollano and Chris Ross added 16 and 11 points as the Beermen improved to 6-2 for solo third despite missing Juami Tiongson, Marcio Lassiter and Jeron Teng.
Tiongson, Lassiter and Teng didn’t play after contracting sore eyes in the days after San Miguel’s crushing victory over Terrafirma in Montalban, Rizal.
The Beermen only have 13 players on their official roster, two less than the league’s maximum limit.
JM Calma put up 16 points, majority of which came in the second half when the Beermen were already up by a wide margin, allowing coach Leo Austria to rest his starters.
It was the third consecutive victory for San Miguel, which now takes a long break before returning to action on June 7 when it travels to Cagayan de Oro City to face Rain or Shine.
Blackwater dropped to a share of the bottom of the standings with Terrafirma with a 1-7 record with a fifth straight setback, losing all three games in five days.
Christian David scored 15 while RK Ilagan added 14 for the Bossing, who came close to beating Barangay Ginebra last Friday.
The Bossing will face the TNT Tropang 5G on June 6 at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
