MANILA, Philippines—Rain or Shine guard Gian Mamuyac had no trouble putting up with his missed game-winner in a Game 2 overtime loss to TNT in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals on Friday.
What was a hard pill to swallow for Mamuyac, however, was his shooting foul on TNT forward Calvin Oftana, who hit three free throws with 7.7 ticks left in regulation to send the game into OT. The Tropang 5G went on to win, 113-105.

Mamuyac had a chance to redeem himself but misfired on a three-point try as time expired in regulation.
“Actually, I felt it was good. I thought it was going in. Unfortunately, it was short but it was straight. It was a great play designed by coach Yeng (Guiao),” said the Ateneo product after his team fell to 0-2 in the series.
“[I have] no regrets. It felt good, it just didn’t go in. I’ll just move on to the next shot. I’ll make the next one.”
Mamuyac, however, couldn’t say the same about his defensive lapse.
“I was just trying to be smart, but it backfired. We had a foul to give, and if we only fouled during a set defense, we would’ve had more chances to get a stop,” he said.

“Calvin was smart because he timed it right. As a player, I just have to bounce back and learn from it because that was costly.”
Interestingly, the PBA on Saturday admitted that Oftana should’ve been awarded four free throws instead of three after reviewing video footage from the media.
Mamuyac finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the loss.
The Painters look to avoid a 0-3 series deficit on Sunday at Araneta Coliseum.
