Philippine women’s football team star Sarina Bolden bared on Thursday that an ACL injury sustained a few months earlier caused her to miss the recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.
In a lengthy social media post, Bolden said she’s been going through a difficult period after getting hurt last April while playing for Italian side FC Como Women, but vowed to overcome her setback.

“There’s really no preparing for the kind of pain that comes with an injury like this, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too,” Bolden said. “When the thing that’s been your world for as long as you can remember is suddenly taken from you, it’s hard to make sense of it.
She added that there’s been “shock, sadness, denial, frustration” amid her ongoing recovery from surgery last May in Australia, and understands that “this will be a long road and I’m giving myself grace to take it day by day.”
Bolden didn’t play in the Filipinas’ friendly defeat at home to Chinese Taipei and the three wins out of three matches in the Asian Cup Qualifiers in Cambodia.
The striker is best known for scoring the only goal in the Filipinas’ 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup win over New Zealand, and has been a favorite among the Filipino football community.
“I’m not done. Far from it,” Bolden said.
