BARSTOW, Californa–Manny Pacquiao came close to making history after his comeback fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios ended in a majority draw Saturday night.

The result was widely deemed dubious, as many felt that Pacquiao should’ve won, including Pacquiao himself.

“I thought I won the fight. It was a close fight,” said Pacquiao. “I felt like we won eight rounds to four.”

The official CompuBox punch stats offer a different perspective.

The much taller and rangy Barrios wisely used his jab to his advantage. In fact, most of Barrios’ punches were jabs, and he landed 45 of them against Pacquiao’s 20.

Barrios threw 423 jabs throughout the bout, and while only 10.6 percent of them landed, his constant jabbing from the start kept Pacquiao guessing and disrupted the eight-division champion’s rhythm.

In total, the 30-year-old Mexican American landed 120 punches out of 658 compared to Pacquiao’s 101 out of 577.

Pacquiao, though, still found ways to slip through punches and even connect on combinations against a guarded Barrios.

The Filipino legend landed more power shots with 81 to Barrios’ 75.

As far as the scorecards go, Pacquiao was ahead through nine rounds but all three judges had Barrios winning the championship rounds (10 to 12) that led to the majority draw.

“I felt like I won the fight and the last three rounds really solidified that. We’re very proud of what I showed and thankful im still holding my title,” said Barrios.
