MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua had some parting words to cap off San Miguel Beer’s run to the PBA Philippine Cup crown on Friday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
“SMB, pwede na tayong magcelebrate. Apat na eh, ” Chua said during the championship presentation after the Beermen’s 107-96 win in Game 6 of the series.

Chua’s comments appeared to be a response to TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa, who didn’t hide his dismay over the way the Beermen handled their Game 4 win and a 3-1 advantage as he felt like they were “celebrating like they already won the championship.”
TNT extended the series with a Game 5, but San Miguel made sure that it would close things out the following contest and sealed the Beermen’s road to redemption.
The Beermen regained their place as the king of the all-Filipino, a year after losing to the Meralco Bolts and a conference after missing the playoffs of the Commissioner’s Cup.
PBA Press Corps Finals Most Valuable Player Jericho Cruz and Best Player of the Conference June Mar Fajardo led the charge for coach Leo Austria in securing the title.
“It’s really a difficult journey,” said Chua. “It’s been a while since we won the championship. But now, we’re here.”
The title actually ended San Miguel Corporation’s string of title defeats against teams under corporate rival MVP Group, with TNT beating Barangay Ginebra twice in a row and Meralco defeating San Miguel for the aforementioned 2024 Philippine Cup.
