MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer star CJ Perez won his third PBA crown on Friday night but the young gun is eager to learn more with the Beermen heading forward.
In the season-ending Game 6 of the Finals, Perez saved his best for last to help the Beermen trounce TNT, 107-96, and notch the PBA Philippine Cup championship—his second all-Filipino ring.
“I’m not perfect. With how early I am in my career here in the PBA, I still have a lot to learn,” the Gilas slasher said.
“There’s still lots of struggles and frustrations to come but it’s up to me on how I’ll handle it but I’ll surely prepare for it.”
For someone who’s still trying to absorb any knowledge he can like a sponge, Perez did pretty well for himself, especially in the Beermen’s most important game of the season.
After having difficulties on offense in Game 5, Perez bounced back big in Game 6 with 24 points, six assists, three rebounds and a steal for good measure.
He only scored five in the Beermen’s previous game, sinking just one out of his nine tries.
“I’m always reminded that I don’t always need to be a scorer. I only proved to be one during the elimination round and I think I’m okay with that.”
“I’ll keep my feet on the ground because I still have a lot to learn.”
