MANILA, Philippines—Following TNT’s loss in the PBA Philippine Cup Finals, Kelly Williams opened up about the idea of retiring from the league.
“I guess it’s always a consideration. I’m 43,” Williams told reporters after the Tropang 5G’s 107-96 loss to San Miguel Beer in Game 6 of the Finals at Philsports Arena on Friday night.
“Regardless of what happens, I think I’ve broken the mold of what’s expected from guys of my age and what they can do. At least, I hope that’s the case.”
Williams, who’s been playing in the league for 19 years, left it all on the court in hopes of keeping TNT alive in the best-of-seven series.
The former league MVP dropped 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals but his effort just wasn’t enough to help force a Game 7 against the eventual all-Filipino champions.
Williams, though, guarantees he will keep on showing up for the Tropang 5G.
Until next season, that is.
“Next season I’m just going to show up and do what I do. We’ll re-asses when the time comes,” said the former Sta. Lucia star.
“I’m under contract for all of Season 50. I’ll just show up, like I said. I’ll be here for the team, keep my standards high and go from there.”
Williams, who played most of the Finals with a hurt ankle, has a rich history with TNT—winning nine of his 10 titles with the team.
