MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas reasserted its mastery over Indonesia, 25-17, 25-17, 28-26, on Sunday to capture the bronze medal in the 5th SEA V-League second leg in Ninh Binh, Vietnam, but not after losing star opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon to an injury.
Solomon was off to a hot start, nailing an ace for a 17-10 lead in the first set before hurting her left knee while trying to save the ball.

The former National University standout had to be stretchered off the court.
Alas sustained its momentum for a two-set lead behind Leg 1 1st Best Outside Hitter Angel Canino, Eya Laure and Bella Belen.
After cruising in the first two sets, the Nationals had to go through the wringer in the third.
Alas needed to dig deep down the stretch with Indonesia looking well on its way to extending the match, taking leads of 23-20 and 26-25.

Laure’s three consecutive points knotted it up at 23 and when Indonesia took the upper hand anew, Belen hit the equalizer at 26-all while Canino put Alas in the driver’s seat, 27-26, before an attack error by Indonesia’s Ersandrina Devega sealed the win for the Philippines.
Alas won its sixth SEA V-League medal overall and fourth straight bronze since the tournament was formed in 2019.
It was Alas’ third podium finish this year, including the V-League leg 1 last week in Thailand and a runner-up finish in the AVC Nations Cup to cap their build-up for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in November.
Alas has won four straight games against Indonesia in the four-nation tournament.
