The Philippine women’s football team may need more than a victory to secure a spot in the semifinals as it plays Myanmar to close out Group B of the Asean Women’s Championship on Wednesday in Haiphong, Vietnam.

Hopes of continuing their title defense hinge on the outcome of the 8:30 p.m. Philippine time match at Lach Tray Stadium as the Filipinas aim to bounce back after being pushed to the brink over the weekend by the Australia U-23 team.

Coach Mark Torcaso’s side is even with Australia at three points apiece while Myanmar is on top on six points after two victories in two matches.

There’s a possibility of a three-way tie if the Philippines and Australia, which plays Timor-Leste simultaneously at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho, win their matches.

The applicable tiebreaker scenario will be used to determine the teams that will join Thailand and host Vietnam in the crossover semis.

A reapplied head-to-head criteria can also be used exclusively for a subset of teams if more than two teams are tied, and after all head-to-head criteria have been applied.
