MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas’ final stand in the 2025 Fiba Asia Cup was headlined by one of the youngest members of the team.
The Philippines bowed out of the continental competition at the hands of Australia 84-60, but not without a fight from rising star Kevin Quiambao.

He struggled at times to get to his spots, but still stood out despite the Boomers’ stifling defense.
“We were having a hard time executing our system, we couldn’t buy a basket but it’s a great learning experience for us,” said the Goyang Sono Skygunners import.
“We’ll carry this over for the next one which is in November.”
In Gilas’ last game of the Asia Cup, the La Salle product went down swinging with 17 points and four rebounds, including five 3-pointers.

The Korean Basketball League revelation finished the first half with 11 points, but his efforts just weren’t enough to stop the Boomers from rampaging toward the semifinals.
Quiambao backstopped a struggling Justin Brownlee, who only managed to score 10 in the defeat.
“For this game, I think right from the start, they were having a run. They got early three pointers, so we had a hard time catching up. The system wasn’t there, our shots weren’t falling,” Quiambao said.
“For me, as a young gun, as much as I want us to execute the system and follow the game plan, it just didn’t work for this one.”
Before Gilas’ elimination loss to Australia, Quiambao kept the Philippines alive with 17 points in a 95-88 overtime win over Saudi Arabia.
