MANILA, Philippines — Australia escaped China in a thrilling gold medal match, 90-89, early Monday (Manila time) to complete a Fiba Asia Cup three-peat at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Xavier Cooks, who played 10 games for the Washington Wizards in the NBA during the 2022-23 season, finished with 30 points and nine rebounds as the Boomers completed a comeback from 15 points down to pull off another unbeaten campaign at the Asia Cup.

Australia, which sent Gilas Pilipinas home with an 84-60 whipping in the quarterfinal, became the second team in Asia Cup history to win three straight championships after China achieved the same feat in 2003.
