MANILA, Philippines—It’s been well-documented that coach Norman Black will have full liberty in forming a different Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
With the possibility of being called up to don the red, blue, and white in December, Gian Mamuyac expressed his interest in wearing the jersey he once proudly represented.

“It’s always an honor to represent the country,” said the Rain or Shine guard on Thursday during a luncheon with the PBA Press Corps and his agency Titan Management Group.
“Of course, I’ll say yes if ever coach (Norman Black) calls.”
Mamuyac represented the Philippines in the past when he spent much of his young career with Batang Gilas, now called Gilas Youth.
At one point in 2022, former Gilas mentor Chot Reyes even tapped Mamuyac as a member of the Nationals’ pool.
But another possible Gilas stint won’t come until four months from now. For the moment, the defensive guard is focused on accomplishing greater heights with the Elasto Painters, especially with the PBA’s 50th season starting in October.
“When we got back to practice, we were excited. One, we’re all close in that team and we really missed each other,” said the Ateneo product.
“We went to work right away. [It’s] exciting.”
Last season, the Elasto Painters made the semifinals thrice, only to fall to TNT in all three appearances.
