MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas got swept by Thailand, 21-25, 20-25, 18-25, in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Nations Cup classification round early Saturday (Manila time) at Isa Bin Rashid Hall in Bahrain.
A week after the Philippine men’s volleyball squad’s impressive five-set win over its Southeast Asian rivals to complete a three-game sweep of the Invitationals, the Thais exacted revenge to inch a win closer to a ninth-place finish in the 11-team field.

No one from Alas Pilipinas scored in double figures, with Buds Buddin leading the way with eight points.
Louie Ramirez and Peng Taguibolos had six points each.
The Philippines’ leading scorers, Leo Ordiales and Marck Espejo, were limited to five and one point, respectively.
Espejo scored 30 points against Thailand in the Alas Invitationals, preparing for the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
Alas, which has now lost three games in a row including tough pool stage setbacks from Pakistan and Chinese Taipei, tries to match last year’s 10th place finish when it wraps up its campaign against New Zealand on Tuesday.
