Carlo Biado and nine other Filipinos made their way into the knockout stage of the US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Biado defeated Vietnam’s Luong Duc Thien, 9-6, to reach the last 64, where he will face Estonia’s Denis Grabe on Thursday.

It was the third win in as many matches for the 2021 champion, equaling the form of Johann Chua, Bernie Regalario and Jefrey Roda.
Chua downed Roland Garcia in an all-Filipino matchup, Regalario beat Germany’s Thorsten Hohmann while Roda was the first to win all three of his games.
Up next for Chua is Hohmann, Regalario battles Poland’s Mieszko Fortunski while Roda meets Hungary’s Oliver Szolnoki in the round-of-64.

Roberto Gomez atoned for his 9-2 defeat at the hands of Germany’s Joshua Filler by trouncing American Mhet Vergara, 9-6, to book a clash with Poland’s Szymon Kural.
Lee Van Corteza rebounded from losing to Poland’s Wojciech Szewczyk, 9-5, with a triumph over Indonesia’s Edward Koyongian, 9-4. Corteza plays Germany’s Moritz Neuhausen in the first knockout round.
Marvin Asis was beaten by Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp, 9-2, but won over Italy’s Francesco Candela, 9-2, to make it to the last 64 against Canada’s John Morra.
Michael Baoanan posted a 9-4 win over Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Baabad to arrange a round-of-64 battle with American Tyler Skyer while Baseth Mocaibat edged Chinese-Taipei’s Kuo Hsuan Wei, 9-8.
Harry Vergara had the toughest route to the last 64 as he produced wins over Chinese-Taipei’s Lin Wei Hsiang, 8-5, Vietnam’s Nguyen Hoang Tuan, 8-3, and Albania’s Kledio Kaci, 9-8, after dropping his second match in the first stage.
Vergara will face Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski in the round-of-64.
