The country’s top collegiate stars will all be in the field on Sunday when the fourth round of the ICTSI Intercollegiate Tournament at Beverly Place Golf Club, a layout inside an exclusive village that gives a true test despite being relatively shorter than championship courses.
Leading their respective schools in search for team glory, Sean Granada of St. Benilde, Joshua Buenaventura of the University of the Philippines and La Salle’s Zach Castro are ballyhooed to grab the limelight owing to wins in the first three rounds that put them strongly in the running for slots in the finals.
Granada ruled the Splendido leg and was second to Castro at Pradera Verde in the third round, and both have 27 points heading into the Beverly stop.
Buenaventura won the opening round but skipped the second. He has 25 points to breathe at the coattails of Granada and Castro.
Top three teams
With all three top individual contenders representing the current Top 3 schools in the team standings, Round 4 is shaping up to be a fierce dual-battle for supremacy–both as individuals and as cohesive squads.
The team competition, which uses a three-to-play, two-to-count format, adds another strategic layer. UP-1, also boosted by Emilio Carpio and Miggy Roque, currently leads with 30 points after winning at Royal Northwoods and Pradera Verde.
CSB-1, which includes David Guangco and C’zedrick Sulaik, is hot on their heels with 25 points. La Salle-1, powered by Jose Lorenzo Flores and Miguel Fusilero, sits just behind at 24 points.
