MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team bowed out of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Chengdu, China on Friday.

The Philippines opened the day with a tough 21-10 loss to the Ulaanbaatar Amazons, who recovered from a 22-20 overtime defeat to Bangkok CT to top group B via points average.

But the quartet of Tantoy Ferrer, Alexis Pana, Kaye Pingol and Mikka Cacho didn’t go out with their heads down.

Despite the early setback, Gilas bounced back later with a 21-15 victory over Bangkok.

Pana, who didn’t see action in Gilas’ loss to Ulaanbaatar, showed up big with eight points against Bangkok. Cacho helped the cause with five points and four rebounds while the tandem of Ferrer and Pingol added four points each.

Gilas ended with a 1-1 record in the pool stage and finished ninth in the 12-team field.  The Netherlands was the runaway winner, sweeping the tournament on a 5-0 run.

The Chengdu leg is one of the 17 stops for the Women’s Series that will culminate in the Final in September.
