MANILA, Philippines—After a heartbreaking loss in the Paris Olympics 2024’s women’s single sculls rowing quarterfinals, Team Philippines’ Joanie Delgaco ended her campaign on a strong note.
In the classification race at Nautical St – Flat Water on Friday afternoon (Manila time), Delgaco finished in second place out of six rowers in Heat D with an official time of 7:43.83 minutes.

Delgaco’s stellar final performance in the Summer Games ultimately earned her the 20th spot in the overall ranking of the women’s single sculls category.
Paraguay’s Alejandra Alonso Alderete finished just a second over Delgaco to finish in 19th place with 7:42.09 minutes.
In her Paris Olympics debut, the volleyball player-turned-rower made a good account of herself after managing to reach the quarterfinals via the repechage.

Delgaco reigned supreme in her second chance race after clocking in 7:55.00, but finished dead last in her quarters race where eventual finalist Emma Twigg of New Zealand zoomed past the competition with a time of 7:26.89.
Delgaco capped off her historic run in Paris as the first female Filipina rower to compete in the quadrennial sporting event.
