Mark Sanchez was slapped with 3 charges for his alleged role in Saturday’s violent altercation with a truck driver in Indiana that sent Sanchez to the hospital with multiple stabs, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Sanchez with battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle. We’re told Sanchez is still being treated for his injuries at a hospital in Indianapolis, where it all went down.
According to court docs, obtained by TMZ, Sanchez approached the truck driver who was unloading fryer oil at a hotel loading dock. Surveillance footage appears to show Sanchez walking to the driver’s door, opening it, and engaging in a conversation that lasted several minutes. The driver eventually walked toward the hotel’s security but Sanchez followed closely behind.
Moments later, the video allegedly shows the two moving around the truck and exchanging words before things turned physical. At one point, Sanchez is seen allegedly grabbing the victim and throwing him against a wall, with the fight spilling between a metal dumpster and the truck.
The pair continued brawling into the alley before Sanchez allegedly threw the victim to the ground, then stood momentarily before running from the scene.
According to the victim’s statement to police, Sanchez accused him of not being allowed at the loading dock, claiming he had spoken to a hotel manager. The truck driver, who wasn’t wearing his hearing aids, said he leaned in to hear Sanchez and immediately noticed the former athlete smelled of alcohol and slurred his speech.
The driver told police Sanchez twice tried to climb into the truck, insisting he’d been told to stop the delivery. Feeling threatened, the victim said he grabbed pepper spray and blasted Sanchez in the face, but it only slowed him briefly. When Sanchez allegedly advanced again, the driver pulled a knife and stabbed Sanchez multiple times, fearing for his life.
Sanchez was rushed to the hospital with stab wounds to his upper torso. Police later placed him under arrest for battery, unlawful entry to a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
According to court filings, the state also filed a no-contact order against Sanchez, prohibiting him from contacting the two victims involved. The order also bars him from possessing any firearms, deadly weapons, or ammunition while the case is pending.
Sanchez faces three misdemeanors … battery causing injury, unlawful vehicle entry, and public intoxication endangering another person. He’s due in court Tuesday.
