MANILA, Philippines—Chris Newsome was formally recognized for his latest milestone on Wednesday at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo, as he officially joined the PBA’s 5,000-point club.

Newsome breached the mark last week, but the Meralco star was honored during halftime of the Bolts’ 103-85 win over Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The Bolts’ star is officially the 99th player to score that much in the PBA’s 50-year history.

Newsome showed exactly why he’s one of the league’s most prolific scorers today in Meralco’s commanding win over the Bossing as he scored 19 points, making eight of his 15 attempts from the field.

The Bolts may have lost at the hands of Magnolia last week in Newsome’s breaching of the 5000-point club, but he still managed to score 14 points in the defeat.

The milestone adds to a growing list of accomplishments for Newsome, who won his first Philippine Cup title last year and took home Finals MVP award to match.
