As a potential No. 1 pick in the PBA Rookie Draft, Geo Chiu understands the weight that distinction carries.

But 6-foot-10 Chiu said the pressure is something he would rather embrace than dwell on, given that his size easily draws attention among the teams seeking talent.

“No matter what happens, I’m just grateful and that’s something that we can’t control,” said Chiu during Thursday’s Draft Combine at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

There’s the possibility that Terrafirma may go with the former Ateneo and Gilas Pilipinas mainstay, who spent time in Japan and Taiwan as well as the MPBL.

But other names such as Juan Gomez de Liano, Will Gozum, Jason Brickman and Dalph Panopio may be options for the Dyip on Sunday’s proceedings, in case they pass up on Chiu.

“For me and my family, we just want to embrace it, whatever the outcome or whoever team gets me and we’re gonna wait for Draft Day to come,” said Chiu.

Chiu will enter the league with the obvious challenge of trying to measure himself against some of the league’s premier talents down low.

While admitting that it may pose as a test to his resolve, Chiu also sees it as a way to gain valuable knowledge moving forward.

“We know that the center position is kinda tough, especially playing against some of the best players in the PBA who are smarter and as veterans are more physical,” he said. “We’re just tying to learn and looking forward to facing those that are good out there and try to maximize whatever things that will happen.”

Chiu was the last player to submit his applicant after a taking consideration of fulfilling his dream to play in the PBA while also being closer to home after suiting up for the Taiwan Mustangs of The Asian Tournament and the Ehime Orange Vikings of Japan’s B.League second division.
