MANILA, Philippines–Jayson David took advantage of the big minutes given to him by coach Tim Cone and poured in 25 points as Barangay Ginebra ripped NorthPort, 131-106, on Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
David went 8-of-9 from the field with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in 22 minutes as the Gin Kings dominated the Batang Pier anew in their first meeting since the Commissioner’s Cup semifinals that ended after five games.

Ginebra improved to 2-1 as it bounced back from Friday’s 104-93 loss to San Miguel Beer.
The sterling performance by the hardly-used David came a day after being placed on the active roster in lieu of LA Tenorio, who is in the unrestricted free agent list.
Coach Tim Cone said Tenorio will take a break from Ginebra duties to focus on Gilas Pilipinas’ preparation for the Fiba Asia U-16 Seaba Qualifiers slated May 24 to 30 in Pampanga. Tenorio serves as the coach of the junior national squad.

RJ Abarrientos topscored with 27 points while dishing out eight assists while four others—Stephen Holt, Japeth Aguilar, Troy Rosario and Jamie Malonzo, also reached double figures for Ginebra.
NorthPort fell to 1-3 with its third successive defeat after horrendous night that came minus Arvin Tolentino.
Tolentino didn’t play due to his nagging hip flexor injury that also sidelined him against Rain or Shine. He saw action last week when NorthPort lost to Blackwater.
William Navarro ended with up 19 points and seven rebounds for the slumping Batang Pier.
NorthPort will have a long break before facing Meralco on May 9 at Philsports while Ginebra’s next game is against NLEX on May 7 at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
