MANILA, Philippines—For Barangay Ginebra forward Jamie Malonzo, the Gin Kings’ problem in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals Game 4 loss was clear as day.

Instead of going up 3-1 in the best-of-seven semifinals series, Ginebra had its defense exploited by the energized Beermen en route to a tied best-of-seven series.

“They did a good job and I think we could’ve done better. We let them score 50 in the first half which wasn’t our goal. We wanted it a bit lower,” said Malonzo after the 102-87 loss on Wednesday.

“I think defensively, we could’ve done a lot better. I know my guys will go home, rest and come out for these next few games with some fire. No way do we want a Game 7 so we’ll go look at what we did wrong, correct a few things and we’ll be back.”

Malonzo had no problems providing the Gin Kings with some offense, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

But his numbers were no match against the Beermen’s high-powered offense as they registered an efficient 48.8 percent shooting clip, powered by their bench and June Mar Fajardo.

San Miguel Beer played “San Miguel Basketball,” as well, sharing the ball for 21 assists

“They were hard to stop. I think their second unit came out with some fire and I think that was the difference. It certainly made it harder for us to guard today and they took advantage of their runs,” Malonzo said of San Miguel.

“They killed us, for sure.”

The Beermen’s second unit scored 44 bench points compared to Ginebra’s 30.
