MANILA, Philippines–San Miguel Beer star June Mar Fajardo gave a positive update on his ailing calf following Game 3 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.
After the Beermen’s 100-90 loss to Barangay Ginebra at Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, Fajardo said his right calf—which he aggravated in Game 1—is feeling better after being limited to fewer minutes.
Although an ultrasound revealed a tear in the area, the reigning MVP said the pain had lessened.
“It’s okay. There’s a little tightness, but it doesn’t hurt much anymore, and we have two days of rest [before Game 4],” said Fajardo. “There were cramps [in the area] and a few tears, but it’s okay. It just gets tight, but the tear isn’t that intense, so I need my minutes to be managed.”
Despite playing just 27 minutes, Fajardo still managed a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.
It was a far better outing than in Game 2, when he tallied just two points and seven rebounds in limited action.
Fortunately for San Miguel, other players have stepped up in his absence, particularly Mo Tautuaa, who posted eight points and five boards in Game 3 as the starting center.
“I commend Mo and everyone coach inserts in the game who steps up. We know Ginebra’s a strong team and they don’t lose easily,” Fajardo said.
The Beermen hope a well-rested Fajardo will be available for Game 4 on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena, as they try to tie the series at 2-2.
