MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra may have gotten the upper hand over San Miguel Beer anew in its PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series, but there’s no reason for the Gin Kings to take their foot off the gas pedal.
Following the Gin Kings’ 100-90 win in Game 3 that put them ahead 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, star guard Scottie Thompson knows nothing is safe especially against a team like the Beermen.

“This is big for us but it’s not guaranteeing anything because we know San Miguel’s a veteran team,” said the do-it-all guard. “They know what to do after coming off a loss so we have to be ready for Game 4.”
Thompson, in usual his lethal MVP form, was everywhere for the Gin Kings, dropping 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
But it’s clear that Ginebra can still do more heading forward in order to close out the Beermen early–one of which is exploiting June Mar Fajardo, who’s currently playing hurt with an ailing calf.

“We don’t want to see a hurt player but for us, if we can get the advantage of getting an unhealthy June Mar, we’ll take it,” said Thompson.
“Even when he’s not healthy, he’s very tough. [I have] a lot of respect for him,” he added.
Even with limited minutes off the bench, Fajardo was able to post a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds in the defeat.
The Gin Kings and the Beermen will clash again in a marquee matchup this Wednesday for Game 4 at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
