Unheralded Sonny Estil scored the winning basket that enabled Team A-2 Barangay Ginebra to capture the mini-tournament of the PBA Draft Combine at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Estil sealed the 37-35 victory over Team D-1 San Miguel Beer after getting a feed from Jefferson Comia to Earn his team the top purse of P50,000.
The Pampanga Giant Lanterns standout in the MPBL was later named Most Valuable Player of the competition, which had two 15-minute halves, and most of the 128 applicants split into 12 teams.
He was joined in the Mythical Five by projected first rounder Dalph Panopio, Edrian Ramirez, Mario Barasi and Jun Roque.
Team A-2 was also composed of Barasi, Mark Omega and Isaiah Africano, among others.
Jason Brickman was supposed to play on the squad, but skipped the Combine due to a prior commitment.
L-Jay Gonzales, one of the possible first round selections, missed a four-pointer as time expired for Team D-1.
Gonzales, a product of Far Eastern University who is with the Quezon Huskers of the MPBL, led the runner-up, which also had the Abra Weavers’ CJ Austrtia, ex-University of Santo Tomas mainstay Christian Manaytay, 32-year-old Fil-American Chris Miller and Franz Diaz.
Miller, meanwhile, took the three-point shootout that was held during the competition after prevailing over Panopio.
