MANILA, Philippines—The way TNT handled Blackwater in PBA Philippine Cup on Friday, it didn’t look like the Tropang 5G were depleted to begin with.

One of the big reasons why TNT hardly missed a beat despite the absence of a couple of key guards was the performance of Simon Enciso.

“It’s just about inheriting the culture and system they have which is next man up,” said Enciso after leading the Tropang 5G’s 108-82 rout of the Bossing at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

“For me, it’s just putting in the work and making sure I’m locked in on my defensive assignments.”

Enciso started and played 18 minutes, finishing with a game-high 19 points built on five 3-pointers to power TNT to its sixth consecutive victory.

Enciso gave TNT a big lift with Rey Nambatac out with a groined injury and newly-acquired Jordan Heading in street clothes due to a back injury.

While Enciso showed his strong suit which is on the offensive end, he knows he still has a lot of work to do on the other side of the floor.

“[He’s] getting yelled at on defense,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes in jest.

“Yeah, I get yelled at on defense but that’s okay I’m okay with that. I’ve gone through worse so when coach Chot does that, I don’t take any offense,” Enciso clarified. “I know that he wants me to be better and it’s a chance for me to get better every time he yells.”

At 6-3, TNT is still in strong contention for a twice-to-beat advantage and the Tropang 5G can increase their chances on Sunday when they take on rival Barangay Ginebra at the same venue.
