MANILA, Philippines–Chery Tiggo had to ride over a few annoying bumps before straightening its road to the quarterfinals at the expense of Farm Fresh, 29-27, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, on Tuesday night in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Shaya Adorador, the Crossovers’ power-hitting captain, drove the final smash off blockers Trisha Tubu and Lorene Toring as they nailed a best-of-three, final eight encounter versus the defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers.

“Facing Creamline in the quarterfinals won’t be easy. They are filled with veteran players and we are determined to work doubly hard to compete against them,” said Adorador after tallying 18 points, most of them crucial attacks.

Ara Galang had 20 points, highlighted by 16 attacks, on top of three blocks and an ace while Cess Robles likewise contributed heavily with 12 points, especially in the final stretch of the deciding set where the Crossovers encountered stiff resistance.

“We saw the strength of our team in dealing with those situations. We were tested, but everyone wanted to win and play in the quarterfinals,” said Galang.

After an extended first set that the Crossovers secured, the Foxies seized control and leveled the count in the next built on Trisha Tubu’s overpowering assault at the net.

At that point, the tide shifted in the Foxies’ turf at the onset of the third set before middle blockers Seth Rodriguez and Aby Marano provided ample backing in protecting Chery Tiggo’s territory for the Crossovers to regain advantage.

Robles then turned on her switch in the fourth frame with a hammering attack and a block that broke the final deadlock at 16 and sustained the offensive with a cross and an ace as the Crossovers established full command.

Tubu’s push got blocked, setting up Chery Tiggo at matchpoint that Adorador gallantly finished with an off-the-block strike.

“Our past two games were important. It tested the character of the team, how we work together as a team and the individual skills of each player that we can bring into the next round,” said Adorador.

The Crossovers defeated the Nxled Chameleons at the start of the play-in tournament in Pool A and with the victory, they rendered the match between Foxies and the Chameleons on Thursday a non-bearing contest.

In the other bracket, a victory by the Cignal HD Spikers over the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles will complete the quarterfinal cast.
