VIGAN, Ilocos Sur — Newcomers continued to deliver for Cignal as it completed a perfect North trip with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 sweep of Capital1 in the PVL on Tour on Monday at Chavit Coliseum here.

Following an impressive debut in their three-set triumph against Akari on Sunday, Erika Santos sustained her fine form with a game-high 11 points built on eight kills and three blocks for a 2-0 start in Pool B.

Captain and setter Gel Cayuna paced her team with 27 excellent sets on top of five points. Rose Doria-Aquino delivered 10 points, while Ishie Lalongisip and Jackie Acuña added eight each.

Heather Guino-o haunted her former team, contributing seven points including two blocks from the bench.

“I’m super happy and proud because the players are really delivering. Their hard work during training is showing in the games, and that’s something we always remind them about,” said Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos in Filipino. “Hopefully, we can still improve because the last three games in the eliminations will be even tougher. So we really have to prepare more.”

“This tour means a lot for us, especially since we have so many new players. It helps us see how they move and perform in actual games. We’re really happy because everyone we subbed in was able to score. Hopefully, even more players will continue to step up,” said Delos Santos.

The HD Spikers battle the Creamline Cool Smashers on July 1 at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Less than 24 hours after getting dominated by Creamline in straight sets, Capital1 had a good start as Trisha Genesis scored from the back row to take a 17-14 lead.

However, Doria-Aquino and Guino-o joined hands to make a run capped by Cayuna’s ace to take a 21-19 lead. The spiker-middle tandem scored two consecutive kills for a 23-20 breather before Santos won the opening set with back-to-back clutch attacks.

Instrella led Capital1 with 11 points, missing coach Jorge De Brito, who flew to Manila after his debut due to his Alas Pilipinas duty, with deputy Jerome Guhit calling the shots.
