MANILA, Philippines —Contract extensions for Ces Molina and Ria Meneses were negotiated as early as October last year but the pair allegedly didn’t respond to Cignal’s offers, the PVL team said Thursday.

Avior Talent Management’s statement, the management of Molina and Meneses, announced the departure of the two from the team earlier in the day to the bewilderment of fans.

The HD Spikers released a statement saying the two players asked to end contract extension talks to chase chances to play overseas.

“Avior Talent Management, which represents Ces Molina and Riri Meneses, reached out to team management earlier today, following a formal letter sent last January 6, requesting to end their live contract extension in order to pursue unspecified opportunities abroad,” Cignal said.

Cignal, though, said it is considering exploring legal options after the players allegedly didn’t respond during their negotiations last year and subsequently did not attend at the resumption of training this week.

“We are currently consulting our legal team to determine all possible courses of action regarding this material breach of both players’ contracts. Team management initiated renewal discussions via formal offers as early as October 2024. Unfortunately, both players have not responded to any communications and have ceased attending training since its resumption earlier this week,” the statement added.

“The Cignal HD Spikers remain committed to our athletes, supporters, and community and will continue preparing for the resumption of the 2025 PVL All-Filipino Conference,” the team said.

As per the rules the PVL shared during a press conference last November, a player who already suited up for a team in the ongoing All-Filipino Conference can no longer play with another team during the duration of the tournament. The earliest the Molina and Meneses could see action for another team is during he Reinforced Conference.
