MANILA, Philippines — Jean Asis followed the advice of her Far Eastern University coach Tina Salak as she shone bright in the scrimmages of the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft Combine on Saturday at Paco Arena.

After her life as a Lady Tamaraw, Asis didn’t waste the opportunity to show what she’s capable of.

On the second day of the combine, the FEU middle blocker proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the frontline, converting lethal quick attacks and nailing big blocks.

The 5-foot-10 is armed with the blessing of Salak and the whole FEU community.

“They gave me so much advice, but one thing they always reminded me of is that the pro level is very different from college. I really need to prepare myself, stay humble, and know how to work well with others,” Asis told reporters.

“I think my advantage would be my experience from high school to college, I’ve been through the UAAP. It’s not that I know more than others, but I believe those experiences really shaped me as a middle blocker. That might be my edge.”

Asis decided to jump to the pros with Chenie Tagaod and libero Ann Monares after leading the squad to back-to-back Final Four appearances, where they both pushed eventual champion National University to its limits before bowing out.

“I feel like I’ve already fulfilled my role at FEU. I was also able to say a proper goodbye to my coaches, the management, and the team.

Joining the PVL is the next step in my career. Luckily, my coaches and teammates were very supportive, so it felt right and easy on my part,” she said.

“One big factor is my family. It’s time for me to give back for all their sacrifices. And personally, I want to challenge myself. I don’t want to stay in my comfort zone. I want to explore what I can do on my own.”

As she takes a big step towards the next chapter of her volleyball career, Asis believes the future remains bright for FEU with holdovers Tin Ubaldo, Gerz Petallo, and Jaz Ellarina as well as rookies Cla Loresco, Lovely Lopez, and Karylle Miranda.

“I’ve seen the potential of the younger players and those who’ll take over my spot, especially the rookies. I really believe they can continue what we started. You saw this Season 87 that they stepped up and contributed a lot, especially when the seniors weren’t performing at their best. I genuinely feel like they’ve got what it takes,” she said.
