MANILA, Philippines — Savi Davison refused to go down without a fight, bucking a slow start and catching fire when it mattered most to lead PLDT to its first-ever PVL final.
Despite getting checked by Creamline and committing attack miscues, Davison remained patient and composed until she found her groove, especially in the fifth set where she scored eight of her 34 to complete PLDT’s a come-from-behind 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-10 win in the PVL on Tour semifinal on Tuesday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“I think I had to make up for it a little bit. I wasn’t doing so good. I wasn’t doing so hot for the first three. But pressure’s a privilege. I tried to perform better when there’s a lot of pressure,” Davison said. “That’s just my job. I want to be in that role, so I’m just glad it transpired the way it did, and I’m glad it was in the fifth set.”
Davison caught fire in the fourth to force a decider before setting the tone for the High Speed Hitters with a 10-7 lead in the fifth. Jema Galanza and Alyssa Valdez cut it down to one, 10-9, but Davison scored four of PLDT’s last five points.
More than two years since her arrival in the country, the Filipino-Canadian hitter will finally be playing her first PVL championship game on Sunday against Chery Tiggo for the preseason crown at Mall of Asia Arena.
“It’s surreal. I can’t wrap my head around it yet, maybe in an hour or two, but I’m sure tomorrow, when we start talking about it, I’ll kind of connect, but I’m just proud of everybody. I’m proud to be a part of it all. I’m super proud of our community who supports us and loves us. It’s just great. It’s a good feeling,” said Davison, who arrived in the middle of the On Tour from her much-needed break in Canada.

Davison, who tallied the preseason high in scoring with 30 kills, two blocks, and two aces on top of nine digs and nine excellent receptions, has won three straight games against Creamline, including their past season duels.
But this one’s sweeter.
“Every time I play Creamline, it’s a different game. We can’t play them in the same way that we’ve played them before,” she said. “The support that we feel on the court, whether that’s emotionally or physically, I’m just glad that I got to be a part of it, and I wouldn’t be anyone happy on the field if it wasn’t for us.”
Now that she’s in the final, Davison promises to give her all when PLDT seeks to be crowned as the league’s first-ever preseason champion.
