MANILA, Philippines — Savi Davison and PLDT aim to be better at closing out games after a five-set meltdown against Choco Mucho in Game 1 of their best-of-three PVL All-Filipino quarterfinals series on Saturday night.
The High Speed Hitters appeared on their way to a straight-set victory but couldn’t seal the deal against the Flying Titans, who battled back behind Sisi Rondina.
“I think the aura in the dugout was more focused on the mental side of the game. We were up two sets, so that was kinda hard to swallow in terms of the opportunity we had to win,” said Davison after dropping 25 points and 19 excellent receptions in a 20-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 18-16 loss.

“I think going towards the next game, we have to focus on closing out and pushing the score and not making silly errors on our side of the net. I think that’s what’s most important.”
The Filipino-Canadian hitter relished another duel with former All-Filipino MVP Rondina, who fired a game-high 31 points, including the game-clinching hit.
“She always brings it. She’s always a great player. Regardless if its prelims, playoffs, finals I think she’s always gonna show up, that’s the type of person that she is. She’s just a little extra fiery today. She was able to kinda break our block a lot and score when we’re not paying full attention so I think that’s another think that we have to look forward to,” Davison said. “You don’t get here unless you’re that good, right? So it’s just [the]opportunity to play against her is great.”
The victory was Choco Mucho’s second against PLDT in as many games this conference.

“The first thing I think about is you know, how can I be better. I had a couple errors this game, especially in the fourth set, or third set I believe, I kinda struggled a little bit. So that’s where my mind goes, as in how can we do better,” she said.
“I think it’s the same story every time is we just need a little bit of help. So hopefully, next game, more people show up and are able to put some points up.”
Davison and PLDT seek to bounce back in Game 2 on Thursday at the same venue in Pasig City.
