Spikers’ Turf: Savouge eyes gold with new recruits

Savouge Spin Doctors add Mark Calado, Madz Gampong and Angelo Reyes to bolster their roster for the new Spikers’ Turf season.

MANILA, Philippines — After rising to the podium last year, the Savouge Spin Doctors got even better ahead of the 2025 Spikers’ Turf season.

Determined to go all the way next season, Savouge signed former Far Eastern University star Mark Calado, Madz Gampong and Angelo Reyes.

The Spin Doctors, led by breakout star Shawie Caritativo, got more firepower with Cignal champion player Mark Calado, who was part of the HD Spikers’ grand slam finish last year.

Calado said it was his decision to leave Cignal and have a fresh start with Savouge.

“Sa mga nagsasabing, ‘mabilis lang mag-let go si Cignal’, ‘hindi na ni-renew ni Cignal’, hindi po ‘yan totoo. It’s my choice na lumipat ng team after conference and dumaan po sa tamang proseso lahat nang nangyari,” Calado posted on X.

“Sobrang thank you ako sa Cignal. Kundi dahil sa kanila wala ako sa SVG.”

Team owner and coach Sydney Calderon welcomed Calado as well as their two new signings, hoping they will rise to the top when Spikers’ Turf action returns.

“Let’s make history on Spiker’s Turf! Big moves ahead! Mark Calado + Savouge Spin Doctors = Gold in the making!” wrote Calderon.

Gampong transferred from D’Navigators, which finished with a 2-7 record in the Invitationals. He is set to bring his scoring prowess and veteran smarts to the Spin Doctors.

Reyes will fortify the middle of Savouge after playing for Martelli Meats, who lost eight of their nine games, last year.
