MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — Adamson inched a win closer to sweeping the 2025 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals Cebu Leg after dominating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 25-15, 25-10, 25-16, on Saturday at Mandaue Sports Complex here.

Shaina Nitura sustained her fine form, pouring in 15 points off 12 kills, two aces, and a block, but it was a total team effort by the Lady Falcons, who took a 2-0 league lead. They shoot for a tournament sweep against Ateneo on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Rookie Abby Segui backstopped Nitura with 13 points on a very efficient 12-of-15 attacking clip to celebrate her 20th birthday with her teammates with the Cebuano fans.

“We just reminded them after yesterday’s game. We had a short talk about what happened. The good thing is, their response today was really positive. I truly thank the Lord for how they handled it,” said Adamson coach JP Yude in Filipino.

“I reminded them of what they are capable of.  But of course, there was still a bit of fear and lack of confidence. I told them, ‘You’re there because I believe in you. I know you can perform well.’”

Less than 24 hours ago, Nitura unleashed a 28-point explosion to lead Adamson past Cesafi champion University of San Carlos, 25-16, 31-33, 25-18, 25-12.

Frances Mordi and Lana Barrera chipped in seven points each. Mary Ann Del Moral added five, as setters Fei Sagaysay and Bella Sapienza took turns running the plays of Adamson.

Adamson dominated the home team right from the get-go with a 10-point first set win and carried the momentum to the second frame with Segui scoring two consecutive kills to mount a 21-9 margin en route to a two-set advantage after a 15-point domination.

Alas Pilipinas star Nitura sat out in the final stretch of the game, with Princess Dote, Barrera, and Segui putting on the finishing touches.

“As for the build-up to Ateneo, it’s a big game for us. It’s important to help boost the confidence of our younger players. Today’s game was a great stepping stone heading into our match against Ateneo tomorrow,” Yude said.

USPF dropped to a 0-2 record, following a four-set loss to Ateneo on Friday. No one scored in double figures with Katrina Inot’s measly seven points leading the way.
