MANILA, Philippines—Rookie Shaina Nitura capped off her historic season by leading Adamson to a victory and a fifth place finish in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday.

But instead of basking in her own glory, Nitura deflected the credit and attributed the win over University of the Philippines to the entire team.

“Our win today was all about teamwork. All of us contributed. When one of us worked, the others followed,” said a beaming Nitura after the Lady Falcons eased past the Fighting Maroons, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18, at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“When someone falls down, one of us will pick them up… This isn’t the last but only the beginning for us.”

Nitura tallied 18 points on 18 attacks against UP to finish the season with 371 points, obliterating the previous record by Alyssa Valdez, who recorded 312 in Season 77.

The win gave the Lady Falcons a 6-8 record, doubling their win total from last season where they wound up with the second-worst record.

“It’s God’s will. Everything that happened was his Will and I’ll keep trusting Him in the coming seasons,” Nitura said when asked about her record-breaking campaign.

Throughout the tournament, Nitura had six 30-point games. She also finished with 333 attacks, 25 blocks and 13 aces.
